Geometric Complexes and Earthen Enclosures

~Newark, Ohio~

The following is an excerpt from the the "Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley" by E. G. Squier A.M. and E. H. Davis, MD, accepted for publication by the Smithsonian Institution, June 1847.

I am including these few pages because I think it is important that we understand just what WAS there at the Newark site in the mid 19th century as compared to what is there now. This to me only emphasizes the need to preserve what is left and to try to enlighten people of the significance of this site. To me, the pyramids pale to this site. After reading the information provided here, I think they will to you as well.
