The Builders of the Mounds

Devil's Lake Linear and Bear Mound

I think that everywhere we went, we saw that people today just walk around, (or in this case - picnic upon!) These mounds. Sadly, as you can see the embankments that form the effigies here at Devil's Lake are not so high that people even seem to think about them very much.

I found it a little disturbing that picnic tables resided on the bear mound that we came to see, but I do not know if the park intentionally placed the picnic tables their or if the visitors did this because of the shade tree that was there as well.

At any rate, as you can see, preservation is a word that has different meanings to different people I guess...

 

 
Linear and Bear Mounds

These mounds were located above Devil's Lake in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
