Charles Brown - "Archaeologist" - Every state seems to handle their historical sites differently and truthfully to me it seems to be a matter of whether there was a person early on who was able to ignite interest in their prehistory and to inspire the people of their state to begin the preservation efforts. From what I have learned, it seems that Ohio had Mr. Putnam....Wisconsin had Mr. Charles E. Brown.

"Archaeologist"

Charles E. Brown  - was the preeminent  preservationist  of  the effigy mounds in Wisconsin.  He was also the first president of Wisconsin's Historical Society where he kept his post for over 40 years. Mr. Brown is  recognized as being the foremost archaeologist of Wisconsin in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison Wisconsin.
