The Builders of the Mounds

"ALLIGATOR" Mound, Ohio

The "Water Panther" or Water Spirit effigy mound that we visited was actually originally named the "Alligator Mound."

Unlike the other mounds that we visited in Wisconsin, this mound was not as clear unless you were right on top of it...However this might have to do with the fact that it resides within a huge residential area, and as we were there dogs ran free (you can hear them in the background," and one boy walked his dog right over it while we were there.

At any rate, again, you will see how endangered this mound is as well. It looks as if it is really just a playground these days or a place for dogs to defecate. But we were not deterred and did the video anyway.

I was glad that we did because the mound itself really was impressive, and is one of the few effigy mounds left in Ohio that I know of.

Alligator" Mound, Ohio

This mound was wrongly named "alligator" as it is easy to see that with the coiled tail, there is a reference to the water spirit, or water panther.
