The Builders of the Mounds

Where were all these earthworks?

The truth is that THOUSANDS of ancient earthworks were found east if the Rocky Mountains, and they were not all in Ohio and the Mississippi Valley.

Click here to read page 1 about Mounds and Earthworks and their locations and structures by Squier and Davis.

I am especially intrigued about the footnote on that page:

Later authors would report on these earthworks as well - such as Cyrus Thomas in his work for the Smithsonian Institute in 1891. Spanish Hill was actually reported about in this report.

(FYI - each orange dot is a recognized ancient earthwork)

While they got the acreage wrong,  they got the rest right. (Spanish Hill was part of PA later....) See General John S. Clark's survey of the hill in 1878 below: (the fine print at the bottom says, "Showing remnants of old fortifications.")

Here is also a great archaeological article on what on what the Spanish reported to have found here long before the English, Dutch or French: Click here. (please - only for research purposes)
