Why do we care about these skeletons and the location of the burial sites? These giant skeletons are just another indication to me that the Andaste Indians WERE in fact here - and that that just gives more credence to the fact that the site of Carantouan was indeed at Spanish Hill. Look again at Champlain's map, and then the location of the burial sites and village sites shown on the map the to right. Then look at the large fortified area on the west branch on Champlain's map, and then look at how Spanish Hill is located relative to those sites where the "Giant Skeletons" were found on the right.
I can only hope that the critiques of my theories concerning Carantouan and Spanish Hill take time to put "ALL" of these pieces together in their own arguments. I can tell you that I have actually looked at the maps in lower Pennsylvania along the Susquehanna and talked with members of the archeological society down there concerning the sites they have in relation to any fortified site that Kent or anyone would have considered to be "Carantouannais." It is quite obvious that the geographical and archeological layout is not even close to what Champlain depicted on his map above. And from my studies seems more to represent the fortified site of the "Minquas" near New Sweden in the following Jesuit Relations - Campanius' Nya Sverige account. As General John S. Clark so wisely stated that where the historical documentation and archeological results can "sing in harmony" - is where you will be able to find the truth. That is what I hope this site is able to show it's visitors one day. Hopefully - if you read the following areas of this site, Giant Skeletons , Carantouan and the Susquehannocks, you will begin to hear the opening notes of our distant past being played out. "After very careful study of all accessible facts, I unhesitatingly commit myself to the conclusion that Spanish Hill is nothing more or less than this ancient fortified town, the stronghold of the Carantouans" ~ General John S. Clark
