Dave Bentley grew up on Elmira Street, South Waverly, right below Spanish Hill.  About 40 years ago as he and his brother were walking along the southeastern face of the hill, Dave saw something sticking out of the ground.

The pictures below show what it was.

Tim Knapp, a respected archeologist form Binghamton University has identified the material to be soapstone. Who made it or even when it was made were questions that Tim was not able to tell us.

Face Carved in Soapstone?

(Dave Bentley)

Found over 40 years ago on the east side (before the highway was put in)
