Sorry about my slow reply. What a great amulet. It
certainly looks
like those produced by the local Native Americans. What is the
material, slate? Other than what Charlie Bello already said I don't
have any great insights, but it is a special find.

Deb - thanks for sending me photos of
the pendant - looks very nice!
I can see an animal & the ladder-like elements are similar to many that
I have seen on pendants and some pottery from NJ.
I will send you an article on something similar that the late Herb Kraft
published.
